As the name implies, ‘File Managers’ help manage different file forms and arrange them hierarchically in your custom mode for quick access. Most file manager gives several basic functions, including Copy, Paste, Move, Delete, Rename, and Delete Files/Folder.

But beyond these features, you can do more with some special and highly-featured file managers, such as the X-plore file manager app. Although there are several highly featured file manager apps for Android TV, X-plore has distinct itself, which is why I recommend it for your Android TV.

The X-plore file manager exceeds competitors with its dual-panel feature that allows users to open two different folders to ease copying, moving, and to paste folders/files. Also, it boasts of its ability to access cloud storage such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and other cloud storages to aid file transfer and transfer through WiFi, Bluetooth, and Email.

In addition, the app has a built-in feature to view images, PDF files, texts, and APK files as  ZIP, watch videos, and allow you to compress files in ZIP, RAR, and 72IP format.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to install X-plore file manager and any other file manager app of your choice on Android TV.

Does Android TV have File Manager?

All Android Smart TVs have a built-in File manager app. But the built-in file manager app has limited features and may require a subscription to access advance options, or they even lack the option.

Therefore to access advanced options, you need a third-party file manager. In this guide, I’ll be showing you how to install one of the top best file managers for Android TV.

How to View/Access Files on Android TV

To view and access your files on Android TV, you need to install File manager on the Android TV. And I’m here to show you how to install file manager on Android TV.

In this guide, I’ll be discussing the two easiest ways to install file manager on Android TV, namely:

  • Direct Installation through Google Play Store
  • Installation by sideloading through a Downloader app
  • Installation with Aptoide TV app

These two processes work with all Android TV, TV Box, and other Smart TVs. These include Samsung Smart TV, Hisense Smart TV, LG Smart TV, Sony Smart TV, Panasonic Samrt TV, Sharp Smart TV, and Nvidia Shield TV.

After installation, launch the file manager, and you will find all your apps and folder through the file manager.

How to Install X-plore File Manager on Android TV

Although several methods exist to install the X-plore file manager app, I’ll discuss the two easiest methods. Let’s dive in

Method 1: Direct Installation through Google Play Store

This method is quite simple and quick, provided the X-plore file manager is available on the Google play store or your smart TV’s app store.

Note: You can use this method to install any file manager available on Google Play Store. Examples of other file managers are Solid Explorer, File Explorer, Total Commander, AnExplorer, etc.

Follow the steps below to install X-plore file manager from the Google Play store:

  • Navigate to the Apps tab on the home screen of the Android TV and select the Google Play store
Launch the Google Play Store
  • Type in X-plore file manager into the Google Search bar
Type in X-plore
Type in X-plore
  • Select the X-plore File Manager from the search result list
  • Proceed to click Install and wait till the process is complete

Once the installation is complete, go to the Apps interface on the Android TV to launch the X-plore file manager.

Method 2: Installation by Sideloading through a Downloader app

This is an efficient method to download and install APK files of apps unavailable in the app store on Android TV.

If the X-plore file manager or any other file manager you want to download, e.g., ES File Explorer, is unavailable on the Google play store or your Smart TV app store, sideloading is the best option.

To use the Sideloading method through a downloader app, you need the following:

  • A Downloader app
  • Download link for X-plore file manager or any other file manager APK file
  • A Sideloader folder app (not necessary depending on your Android TV)

Follow the steps below to install X-plore File Manager on Android TV:

1.      Install the Downloader App

  • Connect the Android TV to an internet source and navigate to the Apps tab to launch the Google Play Store
  • Type in Downloader into the Google Play Store search bar. You may connect an external Keyboard to the Android TV for easy typing
Type in Downloader

2.      Give Permission to install apps from an Unknown Source

  • Navigate to Settings > Device Preference (for some TVs) from the home menu
  • Select Security and Restrictions option
  • On the new tab, toggle the Unknown sources button to activate the option
  • Alternatively, for some Android TVs, select the Unknown sources button and proceed to toggle the button for the Downloader.

3.      Get the Apk File Download link

To download the X-plore APK file, you need to input the link into the Downloader search bar. Therefore you need to have the link ready before launching the Downloader app for the download.

But the link to download the Apk file is long, and it’ll take time to input into the downloader search bar. Therefore you need to shorten the download link using a URL shortener to ease inputting. Follow the steps below to get all done

  • Copy download link for the X-plore APK file from this page
  • Search for URL shortener (e.g., shorturl.at) and paste the APK URL link you copied earlier
  • Copy/write the shortened URL you obtain

Here is the shortened URL to download the X-plore file manager APK file I created for you: shorturl.at/abwyz

Note: The shortened URL I created may expire. Kindly follow the steps above to create a new shortened URL

4.      Download and Install Via the Downloader App

Now we will use the Downloader and the shortened URL to download the X-plore file manager app and proceed to install it. Follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to the Apps screen on the Android TV and launch the Downloader app
  • Type the shortened URL into its search bar and proceed to click GO
  • Download the app and proceed to Install the app immediately, or check the file tab to install it

5.      Install the Sideload Folder App to open the X-plore File Mange App

The Sideload folder app may be unnecessary if the Android TV show the X-plore file manager on the Apps tab. If not, you need to download  and install a sideload folder app

  • Go to the Google Play Store and search Sideloader Folder
  • Select the app from the search result and proceed to install
  • After installation, launch the app, and you will find the file manager

Now you can arrange, copy, move, and delete files/folders on Android TV.

Method 3: Installation with Aptoide TV

Aptoide is a trusted third-party app store on Android TV. It offers users a free alternative app store to install apps on Android TV and TV boxes. The app is usually available on Android TV, but if not, you can easily download the Aptoide TV app from the Google Play store.

Once you have the app, launch it and search for X-plore File Manager from its search bar. Select the app from the search result list and proceed to install it. After installation, you can conveniently access files and folders on Android TV. Quite simple!

Alternatively, Aptoide TV is unavailable on some TV and their app store, e.g., Mi TV and Mi Box. In this case,  you must install the Aptoide TV before you can install X-plore File Manger.

To install the Aptoide TV and further install X-plore File Manager, you need a Downloader. Below is the process of installation:
