Over the years, Google has provided its users with several platforms and opportunities with its Android versions of software products (both web and app-based) to make life easier and solve problems. In its bid to provide its trusted audience more, they develop a video conferencing platform called Google Meet in 2017.

After several official modifications of this conferencing platform, it’s now available on any device including desktops/laptops, Android smartphones, iPhones/iPads, and streaming devices including Android TVs.

This platform provides users several features including Chatbox, the ability to transcribe a speaker’s voice into text, real-time voice interaction, and up to 720p video resolution. Therefore if you want a larger screen compared to your smartphone and PC for meetings and interaction, a Google meeting on Android TV is the best.

With all these Google Meet’s excellent video conferencing features, it’s sad it doesn’t have an official app for Android TV as available for Smartphones, PC, and Tablets. Nevertheless, I’m here to provide you with a step-by-step guide to installing and using the great Google Meet on Android TV.

Let’s dive in!

Can you Install Google Meet on Android Smart TV?

Yes, you can install Google meet on Androids TV. Although the official app is not available on Google Play Store, you can still install the app on Android TV since the official APK file for the video conferencing platform is available.

You can install the app on Android TV using a Downloader or Aptoide TV app to sideload the third-party app. These apps are available on Google Plays Store and they give users the ability to install the APK file on the Smart TV.

The Google Meet APK file is compatible with all smart TVs with Android OS including Sony smart TV, Google TV, Panasonic smart TV, Toshiba smart TV, Sharp TV, Philips smart TV, and other Android TVs.

Alternatively, you can use the Google Meet video conferencing platform without installing its APK on Android TV. This is possible by using its web platform through the official site, Casting from the PC/Smartphone app, wired connection with HDMI cables from computers and mobile phones, or by Screen Mirroring from PC/Smartphones.

Proceed on this post to under all the above processes to install and use Google Meet on Android TVs

How to Use Google Meet on Android TV

For your best reading experience to get the vital information here in detail, I divide this post to different three sections, this includes:

  • A step-by-step guide to installing Google Meet on Android TV
  • How to use Google Meet on Android TV from a PC
  • How to use Google Meet on Android TV from Smartphones

Step-by-Step Guide to Install Google Meet on Android Smart TV

As previously stated, the app format of the Google Meet video conferencing platform is unavailable for streaming devices including Android TVs. Nevertheless, you can install the APK file of the app on Android TV and have access to all its features.

In this section of this, I will provide the two easiest methods to install Google meet on Android TVs. This includes:

  • Installation through the Downloader App
  • Installation through the Aptoide TV third-party app platform
  • Also as Web Clients on Android TV through Web browsers

Note: These methods are helpful since there’s no official App for Google Meet Android TV’s official App store

Method 1: Installation using a Downloader app to Sideload the Google Meet APK File

You can install the Google Meet app on Android TV using the APK file link. The link gives a directory to the Downloader app to download the app, then you can proceed to install it.

Also, you may need a Sideloader folder app to access the app after installation. To use this method, you need the following:

  • Google Meet APK file download link
  • A Downloader to download and install the APK file
  • A Sideload folder app to find the Meet app on our Android TV and launch the app

Before you proceed with this method, you must permit to install apps from an unknown source. Here’s how to install the Meet app with the APK file download link.

Step 1: Install the Downloader

  • Connect the Android TV to an internet source
  • Select the Apps tab from the home menu and navigate to launch the Google Play Store or any other app store on your Smart TV
  • Type in Downloader in the search bar and proceed to search
Type in Downloader
Type in Downloader
  • Choose your desired Downloader app from the search result list and click the Install button.
Choose Downloader
Choose Downloader

Step 2: Permit Installation of apps from Unknown Source

  • Navigate to Settings from the home menu
Click the Settings icon
Click the Settings icon
  • Select Device Preferences > Security and Restrictions option
  • On the new tab, toggle the Unknown sources button to activate the option
  • Alternatively, for some Android TVs, select the Unknown sources button and proceed to toggle the button for the Downloader.

Step 3: Get the APK File Download link

To download the Meet APK, you need to input the link into the Downloader search bar. Therefore you need to have the link ready before launching the Downloader app for the download.

But the link to download the APK file is long, and it’ll take time to input into the downloader search bar. Therefore you need to shorten the download link using a URL Shortener to ease inputting. Follow the steps below to get all done

  • Copy download link for the Meet APK file from this page
Copy Download Link
Copy Download Link
  • Search for URL Shortener (e.g., shorturl.at) and paste the APK URL link you copied earlier
Paste Url
  • Copy/write the shortened URL you obtain

Here is the shortened URL to download the Google Meet APK file I created for you: shorturl.at/agS56

Note: The shortened URL I created may expire. Kindly follow the steps above to create a new shortened URL

Step 4: Download and Install Via the Downloader App

Now we will use the Downloader and the shortened URL to download the Google Meet app and proceed to install it. Follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to the Apps screen on the Android TV and launch the Downloader app
  • Type the shortened URL into its search bar and proceed to click GO
  • Download the app and proceed to Install the app immediately, or check the file tab to install the app

Step 5: Install the Sideload Folder App to open Google Meet App

Depending on your Android TV, you may not need a Sideload folder app. If your TV shows the third-party app in the APPS interface of the TV, you don’t need it. Consequently, the TV may not show the app, hence you need a Sideload folder to access it.

Follow the steps below to install the Sideload folder and proceed to launch the Google Meet App

  • Go to the Google Play Store and search Sideloader Folder
Type in Sideload folder
  • Select the app from the search result and proceed to install
  • After installation, launch the app, and you will find your desired Google Meet app
Launch app
Launch app

Now you can launch the app and Login with your Google Account (Email) to set up an Instant meeting or Schedule a Meeting on the Google Calendar. In addition, if you already sign in to your Google email on the TV, you can easily log in to the Meet app with the Email.

NOTE: Most time with the installed Google Meet app on Android, you may not be able to use the Android TV’s built-in microphone and webcam (if present), although you can hear and see the participants of the call.

Therefore you have to find an alternative way to share your video and speak during the call. I will provide you with two options, which include:

  • Use an External Webcam and Microphone: The webcam provides a video output for your call while the microphone produces audio. Ensure the webcam input system is compatible with your TV (mostly USB). Also, most webcams have a built-in microphone which you can use to communicate during the call.
  • Use your Smartphone/PC as a Webcam and Microphone: To improvise with your PC/smartphone, access the call on the Android TV with the same email on your smartphone/PC. Then you can use it as a webcam and microphone while you watch the participants speak on TV

Method 2: Direct Installation through the Aptoide TV

Aptoide TV is a trusted third-party app store on Android TV. It offers users a free alternative app store to install any app on Android TV and TV boxes. The app is usually available on Android TV, but if not, you can easily download the Aptoide TV app from the Google Play store.

One of the major advantages of the Aptoide TV is that you don’t need to get any APK download link to download the app. In addition, it’s an app store that you can access anytime and download any app of choice

Once you have the app, launch it and search for Google Meet from its search bar. Select the app from the search result list and proceed to install it. After installation, log in with your Google credentials and you can conveniently join and create meetings. Quite simple!

Alternatively, Aptoide TV is unavailable on some TV and their app store, e.g., Mi TV and Mi Box. In this case, you need the Aptoide TV before you can install the Meet app.

To install the Aptoide TV and further install Meet, you need a Downloader. Below is the process of installation:

Step 1: Download and Install the Downloader app

  • Navigate to the Android TV APPS menu and launch the Google Play Store
  • Type in Downloader to the search bar and proceed to search
Type in Downloader
Type in Downloader

  • Select Security and Restrictions option
  • On the new tab, toggle the Unknown sources button to activate the option
  • Alternatively, for some Android TVs, select the Unknown sources button and proceed to toggle the button for the Downloader.

Step 3: Get the Aptoide Tv app APK Download Link and Type it on the Downloader

  • Launch the Downloader app
  • Type in the Aptoide TV APK file download link (https://apkins.aptoide.com/AptoideTV-5.1.2.apk) or enter the shortened URL format – shorturl.at/rvwz3
  •  Click search and proceed to install the app after downloading

Step 4: Use Aptoide TV to Install Google Meet on the Android TV

Here’s how to install the Viu streaming app on Android TV through the third-party Aptoide TV app:

  • Launch the Aptoide TV app
Launch Aptoide TV
Launch Aptoide TV
  • Type Google Meet in the search bar and search
  • Choose the app from the list of search results and proceed to Download
Search and Download Google Meet

Once installation is complete, you can enjoy the Meet app on Android TV and have several meetings.

As previously stated, use your smartphone/PC or get an External USB microphone and webcam for audio and video output during the call.

Method 3: As Web Client through any Browser on Android TV

Alternatively to installing the Google meet APK file on Android TV, you can also hold and attend Google meetings on Android TV as a web client. This is possible through any browser on Android TV.

It’s one of the easiest ways to use Google Meet on Android TV. You only need a web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, etc.) on Android TV and your Google Credentials to access meetings on the Video conferencing platform.

Follow the steps below to access Google Meet through web browsers on Android TV

Google Meet official site

  • Now you can either host a meeting or join any. To host a meeting, you may start the meeting instantly or schedule a time for the meeting with Google Calendar. Also, you may join any meeting by entering the meeting Code or Link

NOTE: You may not be able to use the Android TV’s built-in microphone and webcam (if present), although you can hear and see the participants of the call.

Therefore, as previously stated, you can use an external webcam with a built-in microphone for the call or use your smartphone as a microphone and camera.

How to use Google Meet on Android TV from a PC

Beyond installing the Google Meet app on Android TV to join calls, you can still host or attend meetings on Android TVs without installing the app. Several options are attending meetings on Google meet from PC (Windows or Mac PC) on Android TVs.

Let’s proceed with how to use Google meet on Android TV from smartphones or PC.

1.     Sharing PC Screen to TV via HDMI Cables

I believe sharing your PC screen via HDMI cables is one of the best options to host or attend Google Meetings. In terms of speed, it’s believed that any wired (cable) form of connection is much faster than a wireless connection.

Using an HDMI cable to share a screen with Android TV is a simple plug-and-play action that gives the best experience. You can share both the audio and visual components of the movie without lagging.

In addition, you can use this method to broadcast anything from your PC on any TV, provided it has an HDMI port.

To access Meet from Android TV with this method, you need an HDMI and maybe an HDMI adapter. You need an adapter if your streaming PC doesn’t have an HDMI port. Also, the type of port on your streaming device determines the type of adapter you use.

Firstly, set up a hardware connection between the TV and streaming device to share screens.

  • If both the PC and TV have a direct HDMI port, you only need an HDMI cable
  • However, if the PC is a bit old with no HDMI port, it probably has a thunderbolt port (a small square-shaped port with a thunder sign beside it). Hence you need a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter to share the screen.
  • If the PC is one of the recent models with USB type-C, you can use the type-C to share your screen. In this case, you need a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter.

For Laptops with Direct HDMI Port

Connection Via HDMI cable

This is a simple plug-and-play hardware connection setup. Plug the HDMI cable ends to its port on the streaming laptop and your android TV.

You don’t need to tweak any settings to share the screen. Immediately you can see the video output on the screen and hear the audio

For Laptops with Thunderbolt/Mini Display Port

Thunder port to HDMI adapter

To share your device screen with these laptops, you need a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable.

  • Plug the Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter to its port on your laptop
  • Plug one end of the HDMI cable into your Android TV and the other into the HDMI adapter connected to the PC.

For Laptops with USB Type-C Port

Type-B USB to HDMI adapter

To share your streaming screen with laptops with a Type-C output port, you need a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable.

  • Plug the Type-C to HDMI adapter into the streaming PC
  • Then plug one end of your HDMI cable into the Android TV and the other end into the HDMI port on the converter.

Finally, ensure you switch the Android TV input type to HDMI so you can see the PC screen.

NOTE: You may not the audio output from the Android TV. Don’t panic, you only have to tweak some settings.

  • On Windows PC, go to Settings > System > Sound. Then proceed to Output to select the TV speakers for audio output
  • On Mac PC, go to Apple MenU > System Preferences > Sound > Output. Here you can select from the drop-down your Android TV’s speaker. In addition, ensure the Mute button is unticked.

Also, from the Google Meet interface, you can select the microphone and camera you want to use for the Google meeting.

2.     Mirror PC Screen to Android TV Screen

Mirroring allow you to share you share the PC screen with the TV wirelessly. This way you can watch your meeting on both TV and PC.

The Android TV and PC must be connected to the same internet to ensure the method is effective. And the internet connection must be fast enough to prevent lagging during mirroring.

In this method, firstly you’ll mirror your laptop screen to android TV and then proceed to Google meet to hold or attend meetings.

Firstly, we’ll look at the available option to mirror Windows PC to Android TV and next to Mac PC. Finally, we will review a trusted third-party app that works for both Mac and Window PC to Screen mirror to Android TV

NOTE: All the methods discussed here is what I believe as the best method to screen mirror PC screen to Android TV.

So let’s proceed!

Option 1 – Windows PC: Using the Windows Wireless Display

If you want to mirror your Google meetings to Android TV from Windows PC, try this method first.

However, this method only works if your Windows PC supports Miracast Technology. In addition, the PC and Android TV must be connected to the same internet network.

Here’s how to check whether your Windows 10 and Windows 11 PC supports Miracast technology.

Follow the steps below to Mirror the Windows PC’s screen to Android TV if the PC supports MiraCast Technology

  • To start with, ensure the PC and Android TV are connected to the same internet source
  • Next, turn your Windows PC Bluetooth ON
  • Now click ‘Window + P’ on the keyboard and select ‘Connect to a wireless display.’
Connect through wireless display
Connect through wireless display
  • Alternatively, open the ‘Setting’ window on your PC and select ‘System.’ Then click the ‘Display’ tab and scroll down to find ‘Multiple Displays,‘ then click ‘Connect to a wireless Display.
Connect through wireless display
  • Immediately you click the ‘Connect to a wireless Display‘ button, the PC will automatically detect the Android TV, and you can pair them from there. Ensure the PC and Android TV are on the same internet network

Once pairing is complete, the PC screen will automatically appear on TV. Now you can proceed to Google meet on the PC and see it on the Android TV screen.

If you couldn’t get sound from your Android TV after mirroring your PC, don’t panic. Go to PC Settings > Device > Bluetooth and other devices. Here you can enable the audio option of wireless display.

Select your TV

Option 2 – MAC PC: Using the Apple AirPlay

MacBook PC does not have MiraCast, but they have a built-in MiraCast feature app known as AirpPlay. It performs the same function as Miracast.

So if you want to mirror a Mac PC to Android TV, you will use AirPlay. However, your Android smart TV must support Apple Airplay 2 to use this option.

If your Android TV supports Apple Airplay, follow the guide below to Mirror Mac Screen to the Android smart TV.

  • Connect the Macbook and the Android TV to the same internet source
  • Download and install the ‘AirScreen app from the Google Play Store  on Android smart TV
Type in Downloader
Type in AirScreen
  • Open the AirScreen app on TV and click the ‘Start’ button
Launch AirScreen
Launch AirScreen
  • Now go to your Mac  and click the ‘Menu’ button at the top screen
  • Proceed to select ‘Screen Mirror.
  • Here you will select the android TV you want to connect with Mac. And yes, you can see the PC screen on your TV

After this, you can access Google Meet to host/ attend meetings on a PC and enjoy the wider screen from the TV effortlessly.

However, if you own an older Mac with no screen mirror option, here’s how to connect Mac to your Airplay-supported device (it also works on newer versions of the Macbook).

Ensure the Mac PC and Android smart TV are connected to the same network. Then,

  • Install ‘AirPlay’ on your Android TV from the Google Play store
  • Open and turn on Airplay on the TV
  • On your Mac PC, click on the Airplay icon at  the top right side of the Mac interface
  • Select your Android TV to connect your Mac with it

Once you complete the steps, you can watch your Mac screen on the Android TV. Then you can proceed to Google on PC.

However, if you can’t hear your stream sound when watching on the TV, proceed to Apple Menu > System preference > Sound > Output, then select your TV from the Output options.

Option 3 – Third-party app to Screen Mirror from Mac and Windows PC

An alternative screen mirroring process I found that works for both Mac and Windows PC is a free trusted third-party app known as LetsView Screen Mirroring app.

The LetsView app provides a free screen mirroring platform for users with different methods including Wi-Fi connection, QR codes, and Pin. Therefore if your Android TV doesn’t support Airplay or couldn’t use Airscreen on the TV.

Or for whatever you couldn’t wirelessly from your Windows PC to the Android TV, the LetsView app is available.

To use this method, you only need to install the LetsView app on your PC and the Android TV. Download and Install the app on your PC (Windows and Mac) from its official page.

Then proceed to install it on your Android TV from the Google Play Store or download the APK file from its official site and install it on The TV

Once you install the app on both TV and PC, launch the app on both devices and click on the top-right corner to select your desired mode of connection (Wi-Fi, Pin, or QR codes). Follow the screen instruction to connect both Android TV and PC

NOTE: For any method, you are using, ensure the PC and Android TV are connected to the same internet source.

3.     Use of Google Chromecast Adapter

Chromecast adapter

A Chromecast is a streaming device designed by Google to allow users to watch and play different streams and video games on smart TVs. The device is designed like an adapter that you plug into the HDMI port of your Android smart TV.

With this device, you can wirelessly connect Windows or Mac PC to an Android smart TV. To use Google Chromecast, you need the followingapps and devices:

  • A Chromecast device as the Chromecast software setup is no longer supported
  • The latest Google Home app to activate the external dongle
  • Installed Google Chrome app on PC

To connect your PC, follow the steps below

  • Connect the Google Chromecast to Android TV through its HDMI port
  • Ensure the Android TV and the Chromecast are on the same internet source
  • Navigate to the Google Play Store on the TV and download the Google Home app
  • Launch the Google Home and navigate to the top left corner to click the Add ‘+’ button > Setup Device > New Device. This allows you to enable the Chromecast dongle on Android TV
  • Now open Google Chrome on PC and click the ‘Customize and Control Google Chrome button at the top-right corner
  • Proceed to click on ‘Cast’ from the drop-down menu. After clicking, your Chromecast-enabled device should show among the options
  • Select ‘Sources’ and click on ‘Cast desktop‘ so you can cast your full PC screen on your Android TV

NOTE: You can start casting the meeting on TV before the meeting or during the meeting.

If you want to start casting before the meeting, Click the Three dot button at the top-right corner of Chrome and select cast from the dropdown menu. Here you can select the Chromecast-enable device. Similarly during the meeting, follow the same process to cast the meeting

Now you can effortlessly go to Google Meet on your PC and it displays on the Android TV.

How to Use Google meet on Android TV from Smartphones (Android and iOS devices)

You can also hold Google meetings on Android TV through smartphones. Here’re the possible ways to do it.

1.     Sharing Phone Screen to Android Smart TV via HDMI

Yes, you can connect smartphones to Android TV via HDMI cables. To make this happen, you need an adapter to convert the smartphone output port to HDMI.

The type of adapter depends on the phone’s output port. The HDMI connection gives you direct streaming from your phone without lagging. Let’s look at the output options for smartphones below:

For Androids with USB Type-B Port

Type-B USB to HDMI adapter

To share a screen with Android TV from smartphones, you need an HDMI adapter with a USB type-B port and an HDMI cable. Also, confirm whether your smartphone’s operating system is compatible with an external adapter. Now follow the steps below

  • Plug the HDMI adapter into the smartphone port.
  • Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the Android TV HDMI port and the other into the HDMI port on the adapter.

Finally, ensure you switch the Android TV input type to HDMI so you can see your phone screen.

You can rotate the phone to have a better view on Android TV.

For Smartphones with Type-C Port

  • Plug the HDMI adapter into your device port.
  • Plug one end of the HDMI cable to the Android TV and the other to the HDMI port on the adapter.

Now you conveniently have the video output of the meeting on TV. In this case, the smartphone act as a microphone and camera for the meeting. Therefore, place your phone safely on the TV.

Alternatively, you can use a wireless webcam (with a built-in microphone most preferred) to connect over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Connect the wireless webcam to the phone and place it on your Android TV. Also, proceed to the Google Meet interface to change the audio and video output to the Webcam’s own.

NOTE: You can rotate your phone to have a better view on the Android TV.

2.     Screen Mirror from your Smartphone to Android TV

An exemplary method to use Google Meet on Android directly from smartphones without any hardware connection is screen mirroring the meeting to your Android TV.

You can screen mirror a phone to Android TV with screen-mirroring apps. Most phones, especially the recent models, have default screen mirror technology with built-in Miracast technology.

The name of the app differs from one device to another. It’s known as Smartview on Samsung phones, Screencast on Oppo devices, Wireless Projection on Huawei, Asus, and Sony Xperia

Apple smart devices (iPhones and iPhones) use AirPlay, which works with the screen mirror feature on the device.

In this section, I will provide a guide on how to screen mirror your smartphone iPhone/iPad to Android TV and next to the Android phone. Then finally I will provide a trusted third-party app you can use to screen mirror from your smartphone to Android TV.

Let’s proceed to how to screen mirror smartphone to Android TV

Option 1: Screen mirror from iPhone and iPad to Android TV

This is quite easy. You can seamlessly mirror your iPhone/iPad to Android TV without a third-party app if the Android TV supports Apple Airplay. Therefore you only need to connect the iOS device to the same network as the TV and proceed to the smart device control center to click the Screen Mirror option.

A list of Airplay-supported devices on the same network shows us, then proceed to select your Android TV. Easily you can now attend the Google meeting through the web, mobile app, or through your Gmail.

Alternatively, if the Android TV does not support Apple Airplay, you need a trusted third-party app. To screen mirror iPhone and iPad to this Android TV, you need to download and install the AirScreen app on Android TV from the Google Play store. The AirScreen app is the Android version of Airplay.

Proceed with these steps to screen mirror your iOS device to Android TV that doesn’t support Apple Airplay

  • Ensure the iPhone or iPad and Android TV are on the same internet source
  • Launch the AirScreen app on your TV and click ‘Start‘ on its interface. Immediately, your TV shows it’s waiting for connection from your Apple device
Launch AirScreen
Launch AirScreen
  • Proceed to your iPhone or iPad  menu and select ‘Screen Mirror‘ to view the connections available for your device
Screen Mirror
Screen Mirror
  • Select your Android TV. Now you can see your iPhone or iPad screen on Android TV

Option 2: Screen mirror from Android Phone to Android TV

As previously stated, different brands of Android phones have featured Miracast technology with different names on their product.

To screen mirror Android phones, it’s the same method as the Apple device above.

  • Firstly, connect the Android phone and TV to the same internet source
  • Then proceed to the Miracast technology (depending on its name on your device) on your phone.
  • Select the Android TV from the device list

Option 3: Third-party app to Screen Mirror Smartphones (Android/iPhone/iPads)

An alternative screen mirroring process I found that works for smartphones (Android, iPhones, and iPads) is a free trusted third-party app known as LetsView Screen Mirroring app.

The LetsView app provides a free screen mirroring platform for users with different methods including Wi-Fi connection, QR codes, and Pin. Therefore, if your Android TV doesn’t support Airplay or couldn’t use Airscreen on the TV.

Or for whatever you couldn’t wirelessly on Android phones with their Miracast technology or the Apple Airplay feature, the LetsView app is available.

To use this method, you only need to install the LetsView app on your Smartphone and the Android TV. Download and Install the app on the smartphone from its official page or the Google play store if Android and App store if an iOS device.

Then proceed to install it on your Android TV from the Google Play Store or download the APK file from its official site and install it on The TV

Once you install the app on both TV and phone, launch the app on both devices and click on the top-right corner to select your desired mode of connection (Wi-Fi, Pin, or QR codes). Follow the screen instruction to connect both Android TV and the smartphone

NOTE: For any method, you are using, ensure the PC and Android TV are connected to the same internet source.
